Autopoiesis; The Miami Marine Stadium

Autopoiesis

“from Greek αὐτo (auto), meaning ‘self’, and ποίησις (poiesis), meaning ‘creation, production’ refers to a system capable of reproducing and maintaining itself.”

For some time now I have been fascinated by decentralize self organizing systems that occur in the natural world. These systems also occur in a social context. Autopoises is a good term to describe what has occurred with the Miami Marine Stadium. In this series of pictures I explore how a decentralize self organizing eco-system of  artist have kept the Marine Stadium relevant after being  condemned, through graffiti, and street art, as it awaits full restoration.

At one point the Marine stadium became a skater hang out nicked named “Rooftops”. Skaters would cross this catwalk and climb to the roof through the opening seen here in this picture to the left.
